Fear.

Remember the story of two wolves? Well, this is about part of that story. It's about how what you feed grows. It's about fear, and about something that's happening in the wide world around us all.

I have heard many of the people around me, the people I love, talk about what they fear. Losing their jobs. Random violence. Breaking up. The end of the civilized world as we know it. Rape. Mugging. Guns. Evil spirits. Evil people. Being hungry. Becoming one of the growing number of homeless. Death. It makes the world sound like a very scary place, somewhere that is full of things to be avoided or fought against.

I've been asked how to protect someone or some place from all those negative things, from all those things that people fear. And I do what I can, usually starting with some kind of charm or fetish or jewelry or rock and adding protective energy for them. It's an easy enough bit of energy work to do, and if it helps someone feel safer, then it's worth the effort.

But really, that's only the place to start, because all true change begins within ourselves. Anything that's outside our own skin is a crutch to lean on. Once we make the internal changes, we'll find that we really don't need anything to lean on anymore, no matter how powerful or necessary they once were. It's all about our own attitude, our own ability to cope with what happens in the world around us that makes the difference.

There is a lot said about how we bring into our lives what we spend a lot of time thinking about, and there is a lot of truth in that. Our fears come into our lives from many levels, from the physical, the mental, the emotional and the spiritual. When we begin to carry pepper spray as a defense against a possible mugging, we are reacting in a physical way to the fear of being mugged. When we set aside a portion of our earnings as an emergency fund we're reacting mentally to the fear of being hungry or homeless. When we avoid close attachments with people we're reacting emotionally to the fear of being hurt. When we put up wards or shields or pray for safety we're reacting spiritually to the fear of what evil spirits might do to us. In each case, we're putting energy of some sort into averting whatever it is that we fear.

We're feeding our fears by those actions.

Luckily for us, there is a better way. Instead of feeding the dark wolf of fear, we can feed the white wolf of confidence. By knowing that handing over what cash we have with us calmly to that potential desperate mugger won't hurt us financially, we no longer have to fear a mugging. By setting aside a savings for some future purchase we haven't decided on yet, we provide ourselves a financial buffer that we can smile about. By giving our own love unconditionally to others - without expecting anything in return - we receive emotional closeness that doesn't have the power to hurt us. When we offer to help those "evil" spirits heal from what hurts them, we take away their ability to cause us harm and work to improve the spiritual world around us at the same time. With love, compassion, confidence, tolerance, joy and happiness we feed the white wolf.

And we feed ourselves good, healthy soul food, free of fear.

Our fearful reactions to what happens around us limits us. Let fear go. Find the positive alternatives. It really is that simple.

In love and light,
